Ingredients

  • 1½ cups fresh apple cider
  • 2 oz bourbon (1 oz per serving)
  • 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 cinnamon stick
Bourbon tip: Use a smooth, mid-proof bourbon like Woodford Reserve or Bulleit for balance. Prefer extra warmth? Try Knob Creek or Wild Turkey 101 — their spice and oak play perfectly with apple and maple.

Garnish

  • 2 thin apple slices
  • 1 whole star anise

Instructions

  1. Warm the cider: In a small saucepan, combine the apple cider and cinnamon stick. Heat over medium-low until hot but not boiling.
  2. Add flavor: Remove from heat. Stir in lemon juice and maple syrup.
  3. Add bourbon: Pour in the bourbon and stir gently to combine.
  4. Serve: Strain into heat-safe glass mugs. Garnish with apple slices and a star anise. Serve warm.
Tip: For a spirit-free version, skip the bourbon and add an extra splash of cider with a squeeze of lemon.

Batch for a crowd: Multiply everything by 4 and keep warm on the lowest setting; add bourbon to mugs to control strength.
