Maple Bourbon Coffee

This maple bourbon coffee makes a great after dinner drink. Maple syrup and bourbon are made for each other. The bourbon brings warmth, and it's grounded and aromatic.

A touch of cream rounds the edges without masking the depth of the brew, keeping the drink structured and balanced. It comes together fast and uses simple ingredients.

Ingredients

For the maple bourbon coffee

  • 6 ounces hot brewed coffee (about 3/4 cup)
  • 1 1/2 ounces bourbon
  • Woodford Reserve works especially well for its warm caramel and vanilla notes.
  • 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup, to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of fine sea salt
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons heavy cream or half and half
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon
  • Cinnamon stick and orange peel, optional garnish

Tools & Cookware

  • 12 ounce heatproof mug
  • Coffee maker or French press
  • Small pitcher
  • Measuring spoons or jigger
Medium–dark roast coffee provides the best balance with maple and bourbon.

Instructions

  1. Brew the coffee: Brew 6 ounces of hot coffee. Warm your mug with hot water, then discard.
  2. Mix bourbon and maple: In the mug or a small pitcher, stir the bourbon, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt until dissolved.
  3. Add coffee: Pour the hot coffee over the mixture and stir to combine.
  4. Finish with cream: Add cream or half and half. Stir it in or leave it layered.
  5. Garnish: Top with cinnamon (optional). Add a cinnamon stick or orange peel if desired.
For a bolder flavor, use a slightly stronger coffee or reduce the cream.
